“Talego” – Object of the month for July 2026

This month we are exhibiting an object that represents a custom and practice which is still quite common amongst the local population.

It is a “talego”, a white cotton bag with a branch and the word “pão” (bread) embroidered in coloured thread. It fastens with a ribbon tied all the way round the opening. This object used to carry bread.

The word talego is a regional linguistic variant, as dictionaries still use the spelling taleigo.
