Mare Clausum – Rodrigo Vilhena – from October 2nd to December 31th, 2025

The Museu da Luz opens on October 2nd, at 5:00 pm, the temporary exhibition “Mare Clausum”, by the visual artist Rodrigo Vilhena.
The exhibition is the result of an artist residency held at the Museu da Luz and offers visitors a symbolic journey through the waters of the Alqueva River. In the author’s words, it’s an experience that reveals “the fleeting and transitory sensation of the earth, the discovery of light through shadow, the tiny land in the vast immensity, and the islands surrounded by blue, in the restlessness of the Alentejo mare clausum .”
Inspired by the Age of Discovery and evoking the Treaty of Alcáçovas (1479) and the Treaty of Tordesillas (1494), Rodrigo Vilhena transports the audience to a space of memory where the Alqueva landscape intersects with historical references. The viewer is invited to navigate the waters and lands of Alentejo, finding in the images the intersection between past and present.
