University of Leiden – Light and Shadow – International Year of Light 29 June to 10 July 2015

After the organization of the international meeting Cosmic Light, held at ML in September 2014 and organized by astrophysicist Peter Russo of the University of Leiden (Netherlands) / International Astronomical Union, now comes, with the same organization and in partnership with UNESCO, a temporary exhibition related to the International Year of Light and also a scientific residency of a university team regarding the development of various activities.

During the residency, leaded by Professor Peter Russo, the team of the Leiden University will work in the temporary exhibition but also in processes and products intended to raise the public’s awareness about the importance of light for science and technology and to support greater energy efficiency: The importance of Science, Light & Shadows in the Alqueva region.

▫ June 29 – July 3: Exhibition, field, Prototypes
▫ 6-10 of July: Activities (in Portuguese and English) on Lights and Shadows at the Museum directed to children, schools and families; Development of educational materials; Development of concepts for a proposal of a sundial in the village of Luz; Public presentation of the results of the residence.
▫ July to September: Exhibition Luz Cósmica-Beyond the Lamp
▫ August: Final proposal for a sundial outdoors in Aldeia da Luz
