“Estanqueira” – Object of the month for December 2023

Estanqueira
Bread has been a staple of the Alentejo diet since time immemorial. Luz is a village where bread has been made for many years. For these reasons, we take advantage of the month of December to highlight an object associated with breadmaking: the
estanqueira (perhaps a regional linguistic expression) that was used to store yeast.
This wooden estanqueira takes on a truncated pyramid shape with a rectangular base and edges reinforced with galvanized sheet metal.
